Business Owner · Petaling Jaya

A dispute with a former business partner had been causing me considerable stress for months. I had been reluctant to go to court — the cost and the time commitment felt daunting. Quilstow suggested mediation instead, and within a few sessions we had reached an agreement both parties could accept. I was genuinely relieved by how calm the process was. Rajan was clear-headed and kept things moving without pressure.

My mother passed away last year and I was named executor. I had no idea where to begin — the paperwork, the court application, notifying various banks and agencies. Farah at Quilstow walked me through every step with patience. There were moments when I found it emotionally difficult to engage with all the formalities, and she was always understanding about that. I could not have managed without them.

We engaged Quilstow when preparing for a CMA licence renewal. The advice we received was thorough and written in a way our internal team could actually work with — not overly legalistic, but precise where it needed to be. Li Xuan had clearly kept up with recent MCMC guidance and the advice reflected that. Solid, practical work. We would use them again.

We brought Quilstow in to facilitate a mediation between two long-standing employees whose working relationship had deteriorated significantly. The situation was delicate — both individuals had been with the company for many years and dismissal was not the outcome we wanted. The mediation sessions helped them articulate things they had not been able to say directly, and by the end there was a workable resolution. I was impressed by how carefully the mediator managed the dynamic.

Our family came to Quilstow after my father passed without a will, which complicated things considerably. Farah explained the intestacy process clearly and helped us understand what to expect and how long it might take. The timeline was accurate — no surprises. There were a few points where my siblings and I had different expectations, and Quilstow navigated those conversations diplomatically. A difficult process handled with care.

We are a relatively young company and needed external legal counsel for a spectrum-related matter that our in-house team did not have the background to handle. Quilstow came with a recommendation and the engagement confirmed why. Li Xuan was knowledgeable, thorough, and clear about what was within regulatory scope and what was not. The advice was grounded in current MCMC positions, not outdated precedents. Highly capable.

Mediation & Conciliation

Partnership dispute — commercial disagreement over exit terms

January 2026

Challenge

Two co-founders of a distribution company had reached an impasse over the financial terms of one partner's exit. Both had legal representation and were preparing for litigation. The costs and time involved were a significant concern for both parties.

Approach

Quilstow was engaged by one party and — with both parties' agreement — facilitated a three-session mediation. The mediator worked with each party in separate preliminary sessions before bringing them together, which helped surface the underlying concerns behind the stated positions.

Outcome

An agreement was reached in the third session and a binding settlement was drafted. The matter was resolved in six weeks rather than the 12–18 months a full litigation might have required. Both parties have since continued operating successfully in their respective roles.

Probate & Estate Administration

Complex estate with multiple assets and beneficiaries across two jurisdictions

March 2026

Challenge

An estate comprised property in Kuala Lumpur, savings accounts, shares, and assets held in Singapore. Seven beneficiaries were named in the will, two of whom were based overseas. The family was unfamiliar with the probate process and disagreed about the appropriate pace of distribution.

Approach

Quilstow coordinated the Malaysian probate application and worked with a Singapore firm on the cross-border assets. Regular written updates were provided to all beneficiaries in a clear format, reducing the family's anxiety about the process and managing expectations around timing.

Outcome

Full administration was completed within fourteen months. The family received a final accounts document explaining every distribution made. Several beneficiaries noted that the regular updates had made a considerable difference to their experience during a difficult period.

Telecommunications Law Advisory

Regulatory review ahead of new product launch for internet service provider

February 2026

Challenge

A mid-sized internet service provider was preparing to launch a new bundled service and was uncertain whether it triggered additional licensing obligations or fell within the scope of existing authorisations. Internal views within the company were divided.

Approach

Quilstow reviewed the company's existing CMA licences, analysed the proposed service against current regulatory definitions, and produced a written opinion outlining the position under the CMA 1998 and the company's consumer obligations. The opinion included a practical compliance checklist.

Outcome

The client proceeded with the launch with confidence that their existing authorisations covered the new service. The compliance checklist was incorporated into their internal launch review process. No regulatory issues have arisen since launch.
