Common Questions
Things people often ask
What types of disputes are suitable for mediation?
Mediation is well-suited to a broad range of situations — workplace disagreements, business disputes between partners or suppliers, tenancy matters, and community conflicts, among others. It works best when both parties have an interest in reaching a workable resolution. We are happy to discuss whether mediation might be appropriate for your particular circumstances during an initial consultation.
How long does probate and estate administration typically take?
The timeframe varies depending on the complexity of the estate, the assets involved, and whether any disputes arise among beneficiaries. A straightforward estate may be administered within six to twelve months; more complex matters can take longer. We keep families informed at each stage and work at a pace that allows everyone to participate meaningfully in the process.
Does the estate advisory service cover matters where there is no will?
Yes. Where a person has passed away without a valid will — a situation known as intestacy — the estate is distributed according to the Distribution Act 1958 or, where applicable, Islamic inheritance law. Our team has experience navigating both frameworks and can walk the relevant parties through the process with clarity and sensitivity.
What does telecommunications law advisory typically cover?
Our telecommunications advisory work covers a wide range of regulatory matters under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 — including licence applications and renewals, interconnection agreement negotiations, spectrum allocation queries, and obligations to end users. We also advise on how emerging digital communications policies may affect a company's operations going forward.
What happens during an initial consultation?
An initial consultation gives us the opportunity to understand your situation and for you to ask any questions you may have. There is no obligation to proceed further, and we aim to keep the conversation straightforward and unhurried. Based on what you share, we can discuss the options available and what working with Quilstow might look like.
How is client information handled?
All information shared with Quilstow is treated with the utmost discretion. Our team is bound by professional confidentiality obligations, and we take data protection seriously in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Malaysia). We do not share client information with third parties except where required by law or with your explicit consent.
